[ on a list of things he thought he would never experience, a high school party is near the top. of course he’s been to parties before, there was the after party following his bar mitzvah for one, but not one like this. an as seen on television party crammed from wall to wall with teenagers, too loud music that’s hard on his enhanced hearing, and littered with red solo cups. it’s not his scene, that’s for certain, though he finds he doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb— not like he would have before his vampirization when he had a penchant for flannel, graphic tees, and had an overlarge pair of glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose. now he just about melds with the crowd, wearing a leather jacket that raphael had let him borrow, had actually thrown at him while saying ‘one of mine isn’t leaving the hotel like that’. that being his usual attire which he would normally stand behind, but he wanted to look nice. good, even. for ivy.
ivy who is of course in the throng of the crowd, looking at home surrounded by the other teens, the center of attention. and for a moment he just watches her, the line of her throat as she tilts her head back and laughs at something someone has said and he swallows heavily. tries to think about something, anything other than sinking his teeth into the juncture of her neck because that is not happening.
he realizes that he’s been standing still for a moment too long, that he hasn’t been breathing ( he doesn’t need to, but around humans he thinks he should probably keep that a secret ), and pitches forward in ivy’s direction. moves with an inhuman grace, and is at her side in almost a blur. yeah, he has to work on being covert. keeping his speed in check. he’s glad suddenly that most of the people here are well on their way to inebriation, would likely attribute anything unnatural to a case of beer goggles.
when her gaze lands on him he smiles, eyes crinkling with it, and he reaches up. sweeps a thumb across her cheekbone mindful of the pressure he uses, it’s too easy these days to forget his own strength: ] You had glitter— actually you still have glitter. I think I might have made the situation worse.
[ it’s fallen from the ridge of her cheekbone, is now on the pad of his thumb and somehow has made it to the palm of his hand. the observation makes him huff a laugh, and he waves his fingers where she can see, so they catch the light. ]
Well what do you know, it looks like I do sparkle.
[ ivy isn't drunk. she's buzzed, maybe tipsy, but she's upright and her metallic ruby skirt is still on her body. people say a lot of things about ivy, but they can't say that she isn't fun to be around. she lights up whatever space she is in, all smiles and laughter, a little too affectionate with anyone in her orbit.
she's less affectionate lately, now that she's got someone. someone who likes her for her, someone who wasn't simply using her because he couldn't figure out what he wanted, because he wanted something fun to do for the night. he likes her not because he's heard that ivy is easy, but because he thinks she's nice and funny and tough.
she can't believe simon thinks she's tough.
nighttime is the only time for them, and while she really enjoys listening to his music or staying in with netflix, she's happy to take him out. look, everyone, ivy's got someone. the party seems to have only one theme and it's glitter. who can complain about that? she's stumbling over her black wedges when he's at her side like a superhero or something, and she almost blurts out something of the nature. good thing he has slowed her down again with the slightest touch of his hand, her face tipped back so that she can smile wonderingly up at him. ]
Does that make me Bella? [ she coos, raising her arms to wrap them around his torso, her left foot kicked up behind her. bella was bitten. ivy can't be bitten yet.
moving on, ] 'Cause anyway, I think this is a good look for you. Yeah, you should keep it.
